Hospice & Palliative Care Lake Norman
ABOUT HOSPICE & PALLIATIVE CARE LAKE NORMAN
In December 1998, Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region opened a branch office in Davidson to better serve North Mecklenburg County, Western Cabarrus County and Southern Iredell County patients. Initially, this office was located on S. Main Street in Davidson and was known as Hospice at Charlotte-Lake Norman. In October 2004, the organization felt it was important to more readily identify itself with the needs of the Lake Norman community and changed the name to Hospice Lake Norman. As community awareness increased in Lake Norman and the surrounding areas, the census and staff outgrew the Main Street location and settled into a new building in Davidson on Griffith Street. This new location, with over 3,200 square feet, allowed ample space for the continually expanding staff and volunteers. In 2007, with the expansion of palliative care services to the Lake Norman region, the office once again changed its name, to better reflect the scope of services offered. Hospice Lake Norman became Hospice & Palliative Care Lake Norman.
In 2005, Hospice & Palliative Care Lake Norman served 196 patients. In 2007, the office served 308 patients, indicating a 57% growth in only two years. This growth is attributable to the amazing clinical staff that provides excellent end-of-life care daily to patients and their families. Our bereavement staff extends care for up to 13 months after a patient dies and also provides community outreach and services to those who experience a loss unrelated to hospice. Our staff provides community education and training on end-of-life care and advance care planning in venues such as churches, civic clubs, health care facilities, and wellness booths. Through all of these combined efforts, the awareness for end-of-life care and planning has significantly improved in the Lake Norman community. Our team is blessed to have the support of such a generous community and is thankful for the opportunity to serve.
